Atlantic Monthly Poetry Pages
This on-line magazine publishes each month a number of articles on poetry and a number of recent poems. It also has a useful archive of readings of famous poems. To listen to the readings you need to have RealAudio installed.

Books Unlimited haiku competition
Any poet can enter the Books Unlimited weekly haiku competition. Entrants write a topical haiku and the best effort wins £20 in BOL vouchers.

Caribbean Poets
This site is a useful site for teaching literature from other cultures. It contains a wealth of information on a large number of Caribbean poets, such as Derek Walcott, Grace Nichols and V. S. Naipaul. There is a brief biography and bibliography for each of the poets and links to other relevant sites.

A Glossary of Poetic Terms
This excellent resource for GCSE and A-level students provides a comprehensive glossary of poetic terms. With a hypertext alphabetical index, hyperlinked keywords and cross-referencing this site is easy to navigate and the glossary definitions often include examples from famous poets.

The Great War
For students studying the poets of the First World War this site is a useful resource. As well as being a great source of contextual information it has an extensive links page to a number of the First World War poets and a link to a site on German First World War poetry.

A Handbook of Terms for Discussing Poetry
This site contains a number of definitions of poetic terms, verse forms and genres. There are detailed explanations on definitions with good examples from well-known poems.

The Interactive Poetry Pages
At the Interactive Poetry Pages, writers can collaborate in real time on a poem.

Poetry Class
Nineteen intelligent lesson plans from the Poetry Society and practical help with incorporating poetry into English lessons and the literacy hour.

Poetry for Kids
The American poet Ken Nesbitt maintains this poetry site for children. It contains many examples of his humorous poems. This could be a great resource for the literacy hour and ideal for KS1 and KS2 students.

Representative Poets Online
This site contains the e-texts of over 2000 poems, from Chaucer to Eliot (although none from the second half of the twentieth century). The poems can be searched for by poet, title, first line, date or keyword. This site also contains a good links page to famous poetry criticism, both in prose and in verse.

Virtual Seminars on the First World War Poets
Although this site is designed for undergraduate students its lesson plans and links to other sites on the net make this a great resource for teachers of the First World War Poets. The poems themselves contain hyperlinks to annotations and the site contains a wealth of background information on Isaac Rosenbergand Wilfred Owen in particular.

William Blake Online
A compelling interactive journey through Blake's life and characters, built to accompany the Tate exhibition.
