The Advisory Centre for Education (ACE) Ltd is an independent national advice centre for parents. The site offers a Personalised Email Advice Service, an FAQ section and an Online Guide.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
The ADD-ADHD Family Support Network site gives an explanation of the disorder and gives details of how to book free visits to teachers to promote awareness of the disorder.

Attention Deficit Disorder in the UK
This site is an ADD archive with links to useful web pages. There are also 50 handy tips on the management of ADD for parents and teachers, and a list of helpful UK contacts.

Behaviour in Schools: A Framework for Intervention
The New Outlooks Project looked at the whole range of issues affecting behaviour in schools including provision, prevention and support. Parents and teachers can read the report from the project at this site.

The British Dyslexia Association
The BDA is the national organisation for dyslexia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This site contains a database of 130 Local Dyslexia Associations and Dyslexia Support Groups, a definition of dyslexia, advice on recognising the signs, information for parents and educators and an email helpline.

The Can Do! website
A site dedicated to helping all people develop a "can-do" attitude and approach to life no matter what the obstacles. The Can Do! site offers stories, activities, and resources to help create a better understanding and deeper appreciation of how people can overcome their challenges and reach their dreams by using their abilities and a "can-do" attitude.

Deafsign
Recently selected by Channel 4 as the subject for a short film onoutstanding new websites, Deafsign strives to create an online community forDeaf people. This is achieved primarily through the excellent guest bookwhich encourages people to share their experiences and request help andadvice from each other. Alongside this is a huge amount of information ondeafness, including suggestions for improving deaf awareness in schools.

The Dyslexia Institute
An informative site containing a factfile, FAQ section, helpful hints, quick links, articles links and psychological assessment materials that can be purchased through the DI.

Dyslexia, Learning Disabilities and Literary Resource Site
A useful site produced by a school in Vermont containing statistics, current research, recommended practices, and resources for recognising and treating learning disabilities and dyslexia.

Dyslexic.com
A wealth of software which is particularly suitable for use with dyslexic children (and adults) is reviewed on this site which is easy to navigate, carefully designed, and worth looking at before making a purchase.

Hoagies Gifted Education Pages
Extensive US web site for the parents of gifted children. This site describes the characteristics of gifted children, and covers education programmes, home and traditional schooling. The resources section lists relevant publications, offers advice and provides links.

Independent Panel for Special Education Advice
An essential site for parents of children with special needs who are concerned that their children are not receiving the education they require. The site contains a wealth of advice, plus a hotline phone number for further help.

The Gifted Pages
The Program for Gifted Learners (US) is designed to challenge gifted students with and enhanced curriculum and higher level thinking skills. Features include well-constructed tasks for students and information for parents.

Meldreth Manor
Meldreth Manor divides into three separate sections; a text-based section which introduces the school and its ethos and contains information on teaching and the its use of ITC; a multimedia section, which is similar but uses plug-ins and downloads such as Shockwave; and the switch accessible site, which is designed for those with language impairment and/or visual difficulties.

The Mentors in Schools Network
Mentors in Schools is a pressure group advocating nationwide in-school mentoring to offer to all children in the UK a 'non-official adult friend' for the earliest possible detection of children's emotional, psychological, and social problems. Features on MISnet's site include an explanation of their aims, a list of major education sites, an outreach section and a list of useful addresses.

The National Association for Gifted Children
The NAGC is a support organisation for gifted children and their families which aims to increase awareness of the nature of giftedness and the needs of gifted children. This site features pages detailing the characteristics to look for in a gifted child, services to teachers, national and international resources relating to talented children and a list of local NAGC branches.

National Association for Special Educational Needs
NASEN is a huge nationwide organisation dedicated to promoting equal opportunities for learners of all abilities. The homepages contain press releases, journal contributions, its research database and and list of the association's individual departments.

Resources for people with Learning Disabilities
Contains resources and links for the learning disabilities community. Features include, games, books, tools for people with writing problems, personal essays, and assistance for college students. There is also information about making the best use of software, and LD organisations.

Scottish Sensory Centre
Designed for anyone involved in the education of a sensory impaired child, this excellent site contains a wide range of bibliographical information as well as an impressive list of online articles dealing with the practical and theoretical implications of visual and aural impairment.

The Senco Project
The Senco project is an electronic mailing list set up and used by Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators, those in local authority services, those working in universities and others involved in special needs education. Join the list here or read the first reports on the project.

Special Needs Xplanatory
This site contains pages of resources, information and ideas related to the support of learners with special educational needs. There is much to read and navigate around but the large volume of high quality material outweighs the navigational difficulties.

Teens helping Teens
US Web site set up by teenagers with dyslexia for other teenagers with dyslexia. Features include discussion of their feelings, poetry, and a list of famous people with learning disabilities.
