Advisory Centre for Education
Includes a discussion forum on many subjects including parental governors. You can also order the ACE Governor's Handbook and a book on Special Education needs for governors.

Becta Information Sheets
If you are new to IT, this site offers guidelines for governors to monitor and develop the use of IT in schools. It advises on how to implement IT strategies and gives details of publications which governors may find useful.

DfEE Governors Centre
Contains the report of the governmental Advisory Group on the best way to run and support governing bodies. It advises you on how to become a governor, responsibilities and good practice. There is a guide to the law for governors, such as new legislation, discipline and attendance, exclusions and governors' statutory responsibilities.

How to become a governor
If you are thinking of becoming a governor, this site from Leeds City Council tells you what you need to know. It explains the types and roles of school governors, their duties and responsibilities, and includes useful information about codes of practice and conduct at meetings.

National Association of Governors and Managers
The site of the advisory body for Governors giving detailed information on their aims and policies as well as details of how to join the organisation. Members receive free publications which can be ordered on-line.

National Governors Council
Umbrella organisation for governors. This site contains press releases, conference information and contact details. The texts of its responses to proposed legislation and initiatives can also be found on the site.
